Every Loop-Loc, Meyco, and HPI safety cover is made to order, so the measurements you send are the measurements your cover is built to. Take ten minutes to measure carefully and your cover will fit drum-tight the first time. If anything below is unclear, call our cover specialists at 888-946-8882 and we will walk you through it.
What you will need
- A 100 ft tape measure (two tape measures make freeform pools much easier)
- A helper to hold the other end
- Chalk or painter's tape to mark points on the deck
- A phone to take photos of your pool, steps, and deck
Rectangular pools
- Measure the length and width of the pool at the waterline, wall to wall. Measure both lengths and both widths; if they differ, note both.
- Measure your steps. Note whether they are inside the pool's rectangle or extend beyond it. For extended steps, measure their width, how far they project, and where they sit (center, left, or right).
- Check your deck. Safety covers need about 3 feet of deck around the pool for anchors. Note the deck material: poured concrete, pavers, brick, wood, or stone. Pavers and brick may use anchor-in-pipe hardware instead of standard flush anchors.
- Note obstructions within 3 feet of the pool edge: diving board, rails, ladders, slides, raised walls, or waterfalls.
Freeform and custom pools
Kidney, lagoon, L-shaped, and other freeform pools are measured with the A-B triangulation method, the same system the manufacturers' computerized design software uses to cut your cover:
- Mark two fixed points on your deck about 10 feet apart, several feet back from the pool edge. Label them A and B.
- Working around the pool, mark points every 2 to 3 feet along the waterline edge (closer together on tight curves). Number each point.
- For every numbered point, record two measurements: the distance from A and the distance from B.
- Sketch the pool, number the points on your sketch, and note where steps, rails, and obstructions fall.
The two distances for each point let the manufacturer's design system reproduce your pool's exact outline. Send us the sheet and photos, and we will review everything with you before the order goes to production.
Before you send it
- Double-check any measurement that looks off by re-measuring.
- Include photos from at least two corners of the pool.
